As a May day is the group exhibition conceived by 1 Koffer Kunst for Yellow artist-run space: a reflection on painting through the works of three artists that, coming from different theoretical fields, and by means of heterogeneous media, propose three almost conceptual approaches to painting rather than emotional or impulsive. The exhibition title does not simply refer to a lucky coincidence of the calendar, but it also quotes a well-known passage from the epistolary romance Hyperion (1797) by Friedrich Hölderlin.
Here, the German poet expresses the core of his aesthetic theory by describing indeed the extreme rationality of the north-European education, where «pure intellect, pure reason are always the kings».

ENRICO TEALDI
LA DIAGONALE DIFFUSA

13 settembre - 10 ottobre 2015
Inaugurazione domenica 13 settembre ore 18 - 21
Tutti gli altri giorni su appuntamento al 3474283218

Yellow
Via San Pedrino 4, Varese. Citofono ZENTRUM

(English text)

La diagonale diffusa is the title of the solo exhibition by Enrico Tealdi (Cuneo, 1976), who is returning to Yellow after participating in the collective exhibition Heads.

A selection of pieces from two recent series are on display: I giardini abbandonati tornano a rifiorire, foggy and undefined landscapes, loyal informers of the artist's stylistic code;  and Volti, small portraits of statues, in which it seems as though new sketches are emerging, the clue that Tealdi's current research looms on something original.

The title, a suggestion made by Veronica Liotti together with the critical text that accompanies the show, stems from The Book of Disquiet (Fernando Pessoa, 1982). La diagonale diffusa is that space of uncertainty and imprecision held by memories, in which it is no longer possible to distinguish the events that actually happened from those that are harboured and filtered by our mind. The theme of memory is often treated in Tealdi's artwork. In his latest works, he questions the reliability of the act of remembering: a confused jumble of what really was and what was just desired or imagined, and what, according to a mysterious process of transfiguration, it has all become in the present. "Memory is a rebellious archive, it decides what to remember and how it will be revealed," explains the artist himself. "Remembering means forgetting as well, not in the sense of cancelling, but distancing yourself, retaining but no longer being bound.  A sort of dismissal."  The desire to firmly retain and the driving need to dismiss are played out by the agonized negotiator who produces the image of his own past, which changes every time. Perhaps the pieces on display attest to one of these crucial existential subjects, making it opportune to define them autobiographical.

Berlino

Berlin 29-30.05.2015

Una gita nel bosco, (A trip to the woods), is a project born from an idea by Annalisa Furnari, Fabio Marullo and Gianni Moretti.

The work plan consists of an intervention and a survey, carried out by artists, critics and curators on the concept that has moved the proposal. The project in fact unfolds through the presentation of works and a series of written reflections in an exchange without predetermined roles or compositional hierarchies: all the parties involved have been invited to express themselves equally through their own work.

This process will lead to a show taking place in Berlin between May 29th and 30th 2015, in a private space in the district of Schöneberg: the house of the collectors N. Haarmann and G. Bloedow, made available by their interest in and passion for art. The exhibition does not include any specific curatorial approach, because as the artists, the other figures involved, have been invited to work on a common subject, rather than on the exhibited works.

The theme: Naivety is a natural disposition, perhaps the only one to contain in itself the negative value of consequences. Nevertheless, according to the etymological meaning of the word, the naive is understood as a free, genuine and truthful individual. So how can these features lead towards unhappy consequences? It is as if this attitude almost turns the individual into an easy prey, the inert target of inauspicious actions. Then, is the naive a victim of itself as of a disease? It seems impossible that this feature has been provided by nature as to balance opposing dynamics according to a kind of “natural law”, designed to establish an equilibrium in nature as in society. Or, is it possible that naivety – as cause of a distance from the real – is the only voluntary approach to a vision of the world, a singular and desired different condition for an alternative vision of the objective? And does it generate from our desire to lie? Our own falsehood, our necessary tendency to lie to ourselves? But, if this is the case, should the dreamer, the possible physical extension of the naive, continue to dream, to believe in hallucinations, in memories, in mysteries, in myths and melancholy and surrender to the interpretation of the truth as a lie or an evasive fantasy? Those who keep and practise this inclination, simply keep on desiring… because desire is a possible, natural and physiological measure of the candour of a child. But, can naivety be understood by an adult?
